Who is amyjoanna?

I am an Australian born (and bred), twenty-something free-lance copywriter who has just completed an honours year in history at the University of Queensland and somehow pulled off a first class. I am now waiting for September to roll around so I can start my MSc Architecture (Research) at Edinburgh University. I’m going to be writing a thesis on the Tudorbethan architectural style and the reasons it has been continually reused throughout the centuries as a symbol of Englishness.

In an alternate universe I would have a job that incorporated round-the-world travel, history, fashion, architecture, art and politics; and which left me with enough money to buy books, shoes and white wine. As it is, I write content to put on other people’s websites whilst I work my way through university. In a former life, I was a Human Resources Officer for the Queensland government, a shop assistant at Angus & Robertson Bookstores, and a vice-store-manager for Accessorize.

I currently reside in Brisbane (Australia) with Rob and a cat named Eskimo. This isn’t a permanent arrangment - Rob and I split our time between my home country (Australia) and his (Wales). We’re also both complete travel-addicts, so we’re constantly on the move.

About AmyJoanna.co.uk

For all intents and purposes, this is a personal blog written by an enthusiast for many completely unrelated topics. As such, the content may seem a bit random. At any one time, you could expect to read posts about: fashion, travel, science, politics, art, history, the environment, architecture, Australia, pop culture, books, music, and even food. Life isn’t meant to be all about one type of experience, it’s a myriad of strange encounters, wonderful happenings and a jumble of all sorts. I think my blog reflects life in general.

Why a .co.uk extension if I’m Australian?

Current domain ownership laws for the Australian extension .com.au prevent people without an Australian Business Number (ABN) or trademark from owning a .com.au domain. This legislation has recently been reviewed and is set to change to allow free ownership and sales, however this change has not yet been put into effect. You can bet I will be registering amyjoanna.com.au when the time comes… until that time you’ll find me here, in a much friendlier extension.
